Have you ever heard someone ask, “When is Men’s International Day?” If you have, you’re not alone. It’s a question that seems to pop up every time International Women’s Day rolls around. But what if I told you that men already have their day, and it’s not just one day a year? That’s right, every day is essentially Men’s Day.
Before you scoff or roll your eyes, hear me out. International Women’s Day isn’t about putting men down or saying that men don’t deserve recognition. It’s about celebrating the achievements and contributions of women around the world, while also acknowledging the ongoing fight for gender equality.
Men, on the other hand, have historically held positions of power and privilege in society. They haven’t had to fight for basic rights like voting, education, or equal pay in the same way that women have. That’s not to say that men don’t face their own struggles or challenges, but those struggles often stem from societal expectations of masculinity rather than systemic discrimination.
So when men ask when Men’s International Day is, it’s important to recognize that they may be missing the point. Instead of asking for their own special day, perhaps they should use their privilege and influence to support and uplift the women in their lives.
But that’s not to say that men don’t deserve recognition for their achievements and contributions. Of course, they do! But there are plenty of other days throughout the year that celebrate men and their accomplishments. Father’s Day, for example, is a day dedicated to honoring fathers and father figures for their role in the family.
Moreover, every day presents an opportunity to recognize the positive impact that men have on society. Whether it’s a father teaching his son how to ride a bike, a mentor guiding a young professional in their career, or a friend lending a listening ear, these everyday acts of kindness and support are worthy of celebration.
So instead of asking when Men’s International Day is, let’s focus on lifting each other up and creating a more equitable world for everyone. Let’s celebrate the achievements of women on International Women’s Day and every day, while also recognizing and appreciating the contributions of men. After all, we’re all in this together.
