Whoever said dressing for comfort was overrated probably hasn’t worn a pair of high heels on a night out. And one person who is the hero of relatability and dressing for themself, rather than for others is actor Jennifer Lawrence.
For her latest red carpet moment, the Oscar winning actor turned up to the premiere of the French thriller Anatomie D’une Chute (Anatomy Of A Fall) during the 76th Cannes Film Festival on Sunday May 21 dressed in a stunning crimson red Dior haute couture gown.

But, it was the Hunger Games star’s choice of footwear that really had people talking – and for good reason.
While descending a flight of stairs at the event, Lawrence’s simple black flip-flops peeked out from beneath the dress’ full skirt.
While Lawrence arrived at the event in heels, it appears she swapped the stilettos for a pair of flats that allowed her to navigate the red carpet without tripping over her undulating look.
Cannes Film Festival is known for its strict dress code and long-established unofficial rule which indicates that women must wear heels on the red carpet, so some might see Lawrence’s latest style choice as a bold move. But, of course, Lawrence isn’t the first celebrity to flout the red carpet ‘rulebook’ at Cannes.
At the time, she said: ‘I feel like you can’t ask people that any more. If you’re not asking guys to wear heels and a dress, you cannot ask me either…. I get the black-tie thing but you should be able to do either version flats or heels.’
On the same day as her recent flip-flop moment, Lawrence attended the photocall for the documentary Bread And Roses, which lends a voice to Afghanistan women under the Taliban.
The photo opportunity saw her wear another Dior haute couture look. This time, however, she teamed her backless cream knit dress with open-toe heels. She also wore her hair back in a low chignon and accessorised with pear-shaped diamond drop earrings.
Back in 2018, Lawrence told Instyle magazine: ‘I was fortunate to go through a lot of my life without being too concerned about my appearance.
‘[Now] I love dressing up and wearing uncomfortable shoes and getting blisters.’
